2020 Summer
INTERNSHIP AT STUDIO 10

Waterfront renovation reconnects the city memory
The abandoned site has been closed since 2012, is now overgrown with weeds, and the buildings have been severely eroded by the elements, creating a stark contrast with the adjacent and activated waterfront park. To create a high-quality integrated waterfront space, the project aims to revitalize the factory building and its surrounding areas by renovating this mega industrial building complex and transforming them in an acupuncture-like manner. The “crystal nuclei” in the project falls into two categories. One is the existing components in the heritage buildings and structures with industrial architectural characteristics; the other is the new functions and activities introduced by external forces through transformation. Meanwhile, efforts were spent on connecting the waterfront and the city pedestrian streets on the two sides of the site, so that residents can access the waterfront green belt and square from the city side more smoothly.

As an intern in the design team, I mainly focused on the overall schematic design in plan strategy, object making, modeling and analysis drawing.

* Unless otherwise noted, all drawings are done by Chenhao Luo.
